When self interest is focused on voting for a government that will take from the producers to give to the non-producers then we are destined for a difficult future. I fear that some semblance of normalcy here will take us back through another cycle of moving towards whatever you want to call a bigger more powerful government in the future. They will overtake us if we can't get it through our heads that they are doing what made us great and we are doing what made them struggle. The economy of China is growing because the government hasn't yet gotten around to restraining the economy with over regulation (and are actually intervening to enhance competition in the world to our detriment) while they are recognizing that self interest (Capitalism) works. This all depends on the next couple of election cycles here. If the West does lose its power however it will be the first time since its inception and rise to world power that it will lose this position, which may create national calamity and would cause the perfect conditions for hyper-nationalist uprising. There's no way around the risk of someone using legitimate concerns to gain power.īut the West I think is indeed losing its power, but who knows what will happen in the future. Legitimate concerns however are legitimate concerns nonetheless. The Nazis used legitimate concerns (And some illegitimate ones) to gain power. I know that this maybe abit risky as this line of thought allowed the Nazis to take most of europe before anyone tryed to stop them but our current policy is not working so what are our choices ? Comparing being "America first" to Nazism is a vast leap in reasoning. My thoughts on this are simple we need to start looking to ourselves and look after our own first then our friends, the rest of the world should be left to develop or not at its own pase. can the west carry on been the center of the world as far as groups like the UN, wto and world bank are concerned? can we continue to be the worlds moral police sending peace keepers to every corner of the world and trying to covert other lands to democracy?
